WORKSHOPS SCHEDULE AND CONTENTS
This
will be an intensive study of rhythms & their
correlation to dance
Learn basic Middle Eastern rhythms used by dancers
Learn to play them
on the drum, tambourine and zills.
Be able to identify them in music.
Be able to dance to them
It is important for dancers to recognize these rhythms
and be able to
respond to them appropriately. Being able to play the rhythms enforces them
and helps the dancer
incorporate them in the body. The purpose of this
workshop is not to make you a drummer or a riq player, but to better
equip
you to dance.
Sunday, March 15: Beledi, Saidi, Maqsoum, Masmoudi and
Kashlimar Rhythms
Wednesday, April 22: Ayub, Chifte Telli & Review of previous
Both Workshops: Blending rhythms together/transitions/dancing to the rhythms
